Franciacorta is Italy’s world class sparkling wine. It is made with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes that are also used to make champagne, unlike the more acidic Glera grapes used for fresh Prosecco. Franciacorta shares the more complex flavours of champagne and those bread and pastry notes. The region is stunning, with Alpine vistas and fresh water lakes of both Iseo and Franciacorta. Here in the Lombardy region it is Slow Food country with many taverns to visit honouring authentic food traditions, as well as some of the most prestigious Michelin starred restaurants.
